A viral social media claim alleging an attack on a "joint Indian-Israeli drone manufacturing centre" in Delhi has been thoroughly fact-checked and debunked as false. The footage circulating on platforms like X purportedly showed a massive explosion and fire at the facility, with some posts claiming around 50 workers—including Indians and Israelis—may have been killed amid the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict.
Fact-checking outlets, including PTI Fact Check, confirmed the video actually depicts a fire that erupted at Machhli Mandi, a fish market in Delhi's Uttam Nagar area, on March 10. The blaze damaged several slum dwellings nearby but resulted in no casualties or explosions, contradicting the sensational narrative of a targeted strike on a defence facility.
The misleading posts emerged against a backdrop of heightened India-Israel defence ties, including joint ventures like Adani-Elbit in Hyderabad for Hermes drones, but no such drone manufacturing centre exists in Delhi. Local police and fire services swiftly contained the Uttam Nagar incident, attributing it to an electrical short-circuit in the market, with no links to geopolitical tensions or foreign involvement.

This disinformation wave coincides with global scrutiny over Iran's retaliatory threats following US and Israeli strikes on its nuclear sites last month. While India has ramped up indigenous drone projects like Sheshnaag-150 and deepened procurement from Israel—eyeing advanced systems worth billions—no verified reports indicate attacks on Indian soil.
Authorities urge the public to rely on credible sources amid rampant misinformation exploiting Middle East escalations. The Delhi Police issued a statement dismissing the viral narrative, emphasising that routine industrial fires are being misrepresented to stoke fear.
The episode highlights risks of digital propaganda during conflicts, where old or unrelated footage fuels false narratives about strategic assets. No official investigations confirm any assault on defence infrastructure, reaffirming India's robust security posture.
