An influential astrologer, Ashok Kharat, has been arrested in Nashik for allegedly sexually exploiting multiple women under the guise of spiritual practices, police said. The case came to light after a 35-year-old woman filed a complaint accusing the 67-year-old of repeatedly assaulting her by manipulating her faith and trust.
According to the victim’s statement, Kharat allegedly administered an intoxicant under the pretext of conducting rituals, after which he would hypnotise and assault her. Police said the accused exploited the woman’s belief in spiritual solutions to her personal problems, using deception and psychological control to carry out the abuse over a period of time.
Investigations have revealed that the alleged exploitation may extend beyond a single victim. As per the FIR, Kharat reportedly lured women to his office by promising to resolve their personal and family issues. Once there, he is accused of drugging them and subjecting them to abuse while instilling fear through threats, including harm to their families and invoking occult practices to ensure silence.

Authorities are also examining other possible angles in the case, including allegations of systematic exploitation and intimidation.
